January 23, 2010, (Splash News) - Miley Cyrus' former boyfriend, model Justin Gaston, has opened up on his split with the Hannah Montana star.
The split took place shortly after Miley moved on location to Tybee Island, Georgia for the filming of her upcoming film The Last Song. She later hooked up with her co-star in the film, Australian hunk Liam Hemsworth.
"You can always tell when someone's getting ready to leave you," Justin told E! News, "but you try so hard not to believe it and to hold on to every bit of hope that's left.
"I think everyone experiences the side of being hurt where you feel like you'll never feel again."
Justin's debut single "Paper Hearts" draws on the anguish of his split with Miley.
Gaston, who has modeled for Kenneth Cole and Guess, met Miley while appearing as a contestant on Nashville star hosted by Miley's father Billy Ray early in 2008.
